RF Gill & Associates

An identity to shape an engineering firm’s next steps.

The Brief

RF Gill and Associates is a structural and civil engineering design practice established in 1969 with offices in London and Essex, distinguished by their responsive, innovative and collaborative approach. I was contacted by their director, Rob, who had been given the opportunity to lead the firm going forwards. This was a company that had never really had a recognisable identity before, and he was keen to rectify this.

The Solution

The chosen direction utilises simple graphic shapes representing the building blocks of form and structure in structural engineering. These bold shapes were further utilised as supporting graphics and then repurposed for iconography. Rob’s Christian faith is important to him, and he also wanted to reference this somehow in the identity. This was achieved by creating a supporting icon, taking inspiration from light, the cross, and the Star of Bethlehem. The emphasis of a blueprint blue throughout aids brand recognition across various media.
